A Hidden Enclave in Campolide, West Lisbon
Imagine living in Lisbon in a private house nestled in a secret enclave on the top of West Lisbon in Campolide —one of the last real estate frontiers in the West, just above Campo do Ourique and Estrela Gardens, at the feet of the historical landmark, the Aqueduct of Free Waters (Aqueduto das Águas Livres), one of the most remarkable examples of 18th-century Portuguese engineering.

Near the Shopping Hub: Amoreiras
From the house, walk 15 minutes and you’ll be standing in front of the irreverent eighty iconic shopping mall Amoreiras. The New York Times in its edition of 4th of May 1986, wrote: “The Towers of Amoreiras, with pink and blue turrets and black glass bastions, form Lisbon's newest - and most controversial - office-apartment-hotel complex cum shopping mall. A modern version of the Oriental bazaar, the Amoreiras shopping mall is said to be the largest one on the Iberian Peninsula and the fourth largest in Europe.”
With Sunset Views Over Monsanto Park Forest
Now, imagine investing in a private house entirely renovated to today’s living standards, and seat in its sleek attic as if a protagonist of an Edgar Hopper’s painting, watching the tangerine sun stretching its last rays over the protected Monsanto Park Forest —the highest altitude in Lisbon (227 meters | 745 feet), above sea level.

The house in its future shape, and below, is the street and spirit of this lovely enclave.

Golden Hours and Contemporary Living
To own a private house in this rapidly evolving neighborhood is a rare opportunity. And to be the everyday witness of the sun in majestic free fall, just before the aster disappears behind the dark green curtain of the forest, as if a furtive ballerina leaving the day to its soon blue velvet constellation, is priceless.
With an approved construction project from the municipality, the house features an open space kitchen, living room, an attic with balcony, and a front door garden. The second floor will be divided into two bedrooms separated by a bathroom, with an added Velux window in each bedroom.
Renovations include new ceramic floor, wall repairs, new electrical installations, new windows, restored front door, new interior doors, new kitchen with electrical appliances, and new bathroom. The renovated house will be 79m2, the garden 12m2.
A Rare Opportunity for Homeownership
The attic with its balcony facing the Monsanto Park Forest is an open outlook stretching far, without an obstructed façade in the way, a rare feature in any capital city. Its existing beams will be revealed highlighting its high ceiling, and a Velux window will be added to the restored roof.

The house in its current state and the staircases to access it.
What is special on the hilltop where the house stands, is the ‘particular’ topography combed in three ranges of staircases flanked by small houses, with an immediate sense of community. Particular Nr.1 —where the house is located, could be the signature of a perfume brand, so suave the name. In this natural enclave, where no fences or unnecessary distance have been placed between people, each house, in its singular choice of plant arrangements, speaks of a spirit of care and quiet growth.
Campolide Holds a Mysterious Etymology.
Did its name originate from the Arab phrase “field of Olide”? Based on the oldest known references (12th–13th centuries), the word is thought to have evolved as follows: Campoliti > Campolidi > Campolide. Other explanations have been proposed, such as the theory by Duarte Nunes de Leão (16th century), who believed the name refers to the siege of Lisbon by the Castilians in 1384.
House hunting in Campolide offers immediate access to international schools, top-tier hospitals, and major shopping centers. It is also home to the Fertagus train line, which connects Lisbon to the Setúbal Peninsula and the scenic Arrábida Natural Park.

Campolide Train Station was designed by architect Motta Guedes with tile panels by Eduardo Nery and Andreas Stocklein. In front of the station, scuptures “Imaginary Cities” by Charters de Almeida.

How does Real Estate Look in 2025? Promising.
The Portuguese real estate market is poised for continued growth in 2025. According to Eurostat, housing prices increased by 7.8% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Forecasts suggest a 5.8% growth in 2025, with Lisbon, Algarve, and Porto leading the way. Notably, Lisbon experienced a 9.1% increase in housing prices as of November 2024.

Living in Lisbon’s Old Town Charm
Owning a private house in Lisbon in a stable area feels like stepping back into the old town, where high-street commerce and its people who have lived in Campolide, have not gone away.
At the same time, Campolide is a neighborhood out of the city center, spacious enough to accommodate international schools, healthcare facilities, high-end shopping malls, and widespread art venues.
Finally Campolide’s hillside heritage is rooted in its agricultural past, once home to Quintas (farms), olive groves, orchards, and vineyards. Despite its urbanization, the area has retained its close connection to nature. Moreover, its proximity to Lisbon’s interchange highways makes it the gateway to the coastline and beyond.

An American Dream in Lisbon?
In a world marked by political and climate uncertainties, Lisbon has become the destination where many American dreams land. For those seeking a peaceful, healthy, sunny, and affordable lifestyle, 2025 holds great promise.
Here, life unfolds in greater simplicity around the tables of outdoor kiosks in the charming Portuguese squares. Whether you order wine, beer, or freshly squeezed orange juice (prices array between €2.50 and €5). It is what makes these kiosks the anti-cocktail bar. They are instead, affordable, inclusive, and tender. Joyful teens, kids playing, soccer enthusiasts glued to the outdoor screen, friends laughing in light-colored T-shirts, and quiet readers, flock to these kiosks.

The Poetics of Preservation
The New York Times long-read tale: "The Fight to Save a Decrepit Pink House by the Sea". recounts the collective effort that helped preserve a small, weather-worn Pink House on Boston’s swampy outskirts. Protected from destruction, the house will turn 100 years old next June.
A reminder that #realestate—private property and land ownership—is more than legal possession. It’s a tapestry where #architecture and #nature intertwine, composing a backdrop for collective imagination. Out of its familiarity, memories, belonging, and even screenplays can blossom.
